Got a chance to fish Estero Bay in Fort Myers Florida with a good buddy yesterday and the agenda, besides the obvious of a great day on the water, was to get a snook for the table. Conditions were prime first thing with flat calm waters. We loaded the livewell with snook candy, AKA scaled sardines, and headed to the first spot with an already low outgoing tide. You know your kid is hooked on fishing when not only do they know when opening day of snook season is, but they also have the spot he wants to fish for them. So we joined the throngs heading out for the opening day of snook season and license free day, where you didn’t need a fishing license to fish. Finally getting a chance to post this report. A teacher workday gave us a chance for a boys escape to the water. The day started with us casting artificials at some snook busting small baits in New Pass to no avail. So we headed to the beach where we loaded the forward livewell with small to medium whitebaits along with some small threadfin herrings. We all immediately caught a snook or 2 back at the pass on the livies before they stopped feeding and we moved on.
