02-27-2013 Fort Myers Estero Bay Charter

March 3, 2013
Nice getting back on the water again after a bit of a lull. This Wednesday morning charter was with some avid fresh water fishermen who don’t get to fish the salt very much. They picked right up on the techniques we were using after we left the dock at Lover’s Key right on time.

The bite started with plenty of sheepshead, snapper, and small jack crevalles eating our live shrimp bounced along the bottom of some of the deeper waters in the passes. Once the tide was high enough, we ventured back into Estero Bay to fish along some mangrove shorelines. The first fish came quickly, and Josh was able to land his first ever snook.

The next good fish was a nice spotted sea trout.

There were a few more jacks caught and an unseen break off before it was time to head back to the dock after a 4 hour trip that seem to fly by. At the ramp I cleaned their keepers, consisting of a few mangrove snapper, sheepshead, and the trout before we said our farewells after another great day in Estero Bay!

02-22-13 Estero Bay Charter

February 26, 2013
After not being on the water much at all the last few weeks, Friday was the day to get back out and see what is going on. The day’s 4 hour charter was with longtime customer Gus, and his young son Jack. We started at 9am from the Carl Johnson Boat Ramp at Lover’s Key, just south of Fort Myers beach. There has been a terrible outbreak of red tide in the area, and that was a concern for the day. My last trip we found areas bad with red tide, but we were able to find spots with clean water a...

01-26-13 Fort Myers Charter Fishing Trip

January 30, 2013

The Saturday charter with first time customers Rusty and JD started well. Everybody was right on time for our 10am departure from Punta Rassa, for our 6 hour trip. Then, within a few minutes I was able to net plenty of bait at the causeway without much searching in just 3 throws of the net. There didn’t seem to be any evidence of red tide like the week before as we started drifting some grass flats on the slowly incoming tide. Before long we were able to zero in on some trout hitting the sc...

01-21-13 No School Fishing

January 30, 2013

Friend Jason and I were lucky enough to be able to take our boys out fishing for a day, on a weekday when the boys were out of school on a holiday.

After getting the boat splashed and everybody picked up and situated we spent the first part of our adventure searching for bait. We had plenty of live shrimp, but still wanted to see if we could find some pilchards.

The red tide was bad in some areas, and when we finally netted bait at the tripod, most of it died pretty quick. With that we went...

01-08-13 Estero Bay Charter

January 11, 2013
Tuesday’s trip was a 6 hour charter with first timer Paul. He received the guided trip as a Christmas present from his wife, nice! We headed out for the 6 hour charter right on time at 8am from the Carl Johnson boat ramp at Lover’s Key. He said he hadn’t fished salt water much but he had no trouble working with the 12# spin tackle we started with, catching small sheepshead, snapper, ladyfish, and a decent slot trout. With the tide incoming but still fairly low we fished several areas ar...

01-02-13 First Charter of the New Year

January 5, 2013
Extreme low tides and cool temperatures once again prompted a midmorning start for the day’s charter with 4 guys who appeared to be enjoying their Fort Myers Beach vacation to the fullest. The warming trend had continued with upper 70’s forecasted for the day giving me high expectations. I had 10 dozen live shrimp in the livewell to hopefully tempt some rod bending action. We started where we have been catching fish the past week in the deeper water around Big Carlos Pass. The bite picked...

12-28-12 Fort Myers Beach Charter

January 4, 2013
The day started with first time customers Eric, his wife, and father in law, all staying on Fort Myers Beach and visiting from colder locales up north. We all met for the full day trip at the Carl Johnson Boat Ramp at Lovers Key. They were in great spirits, and so was I as we left the boat ramp for what was forecasted to be the nicest and warmest day in over a week or so.

The tide was super low, but beginning to flood back in through Big Carlos Pass where we began our fishing.

We caught sever...

12-27-12 Cold Afternoon Estero Bay Charter

December 29, 2012
The afternoon charter for the day was with first timer Juergen and a couple of family members, all from Germany.  It hadn’t warmed up very much when I picked them up at the Carl Johnson Boat Ramp at Lover’s Key, but the tide continued to come in nicely. The bite was tough, but we fished a couple of the same spots as the day before, and there were a few fish still biting in the cold weather. The surprise and best fish of the day were a couple of nice snook , 1 fought and lost, but another ...

12-27-12 10000 Islands Morning Charter

December 29, 2012
I was referred the mornings charter from a good friend, and met Doug and his party at the boat ramp at 951 right on time. The morning was still chilly for South West Florida standards in the low 50s and the tide was low. So we started fishing in a canal at a bridge where we had some water depth and good current starting to flow with the incoming tide. We caught a few small snapper and Doug caught his dinner, a nice fat sheepshead.

We continued working our way around catching a few small snapp...

12-26-12 Curtis Boys Estero Bay

December 29, 2012
I hadn’t been on the water in South West Florida the last week or so, and with a few charters coming up, and family in town, my son and dad were able to escape for a few hours to Estero Bay. My boy was dying to try his new fly rod he got for Christmas, but the strong winds kept us from being able to break it out. We started fishing around some of my favorite islands and oyster bars, but it appeared the chilly wind and water had the flats pretty well shut down. With that we headed to find so...
