07-19-12 Estero Bay Father and Son Charter

July 29, 2012
I’m a little delayed getting this fishing report up, but I had to share what a great day we had. I met the first time clients, a father and son team, at Lover’s Key right at 7am for a half day trip.

I grabbed a few dozen decent shrimp from the baithouse and we left the dock quickly, looking to add some more likely baits to the livewell. On the still very low tide we managed to add a nice mixture of small pinfish, mojarro, pigfish, and whitebaits to our menagerie of live and artificial offerings for the day. The first spot was a bust, with nothing more than some bait stealers, and we didn’t spend much time there. On the journey to the next spot I spotted some manatees and we got a better than usual view as I slowed to a drift. What looked like a juvenile swam up fairly close to us for a quick hello, as 2-3 others appeared to be “frolicking” and coming quite a ways out of the water. As we moved to the next spot, there was a good bit of activity visible as I slid the anchor into the 2 foot water. The bites and fish started right away with schools of rampaging ladyfish and small jacks busting schools of small baits all around us. The first fish to the boat is a perfect warm up, a small jack crevalle.

We landed a few ladyfish and then Sean got the only snook of the day.

He did a great job and we worked together well all morning.

The next spot was almost nonstop action. The first fish was a great team effort with dad making a nice cast and hooking what turned out to be a nice redfish, and handing off to Sean for the fight and landing.

As we net the redfish, a rod set in a rod holder bends over double, and we hear the line peeling off the reel. After a typical round the boat, nice jack battle we get a good picture and release it for another day.

The best fish of the day is up next and gives the young man all he can handle on the 12# spinning tackle.

The beautiful redfish poses nicely before being added to the livewell for dinner.

One more nice red comes to the boat before the bite slows and we head towards the next part of the day, a search for dolphins.

After running all around Estero Bay looking for them we finally find a few, and they are more than willing to play. There were 3 that decided to give us an incredible show jumping, playing, and surfing in the wake of the boat just feet from us for a good 10-15 minutes. With huge smiles for all of us we head to the ramp to clean the fish and say our goodbyes after another great day in Estero Bay. Want to add a huge thanks to David for sending me the pictures he took!

07-05-12 Marco Island Fishing Charter

July 10, 2012
I got a call early in the week from longtime friends and customers, the Ganchou family, asking about an opening for a fishing trip. I was able to fit them in for an early trip out of Marco Island on Thursday. We met at the ramp at 7, and after a bit of a scramble, purchased some tiny live shrimp and hit the water. The first stop was very close to the ramp, and we started catching fish immediately.

Carol started it off with a fun little snooklet.

Everybody caught a fish or 2 before we moved on t...

4th Of July Week 2012

July 10, 2012
Fished a couple days over the last week with family and friends in Estero Bay. While we saw some huge snook, all we could get to bite were some smaller versions.

A nice trout bite has helped get fish to the boat and smiles on the anglers though.

We have also had amazing dolphin experiences every time out over the last couple of weeks!

06-17-12 Marco Island Father’s Day

June 19, 2012
With a very busy weekend on hand I was still able to reserve a small window of time on Sunday morning for some family fishing. The 3 of us did well getting up and out of the house, and we were at the boat ramp at 951 just on the north side of the bridge to Marco Island before 8am. There was a great high flooding tide, yet I was still debating on where to start fishing as we idled down the canal. We only had a few hours to fish, and I couldn’t decide if I wanted to run all the way to the gul...

06-10-12 Marco Island Trip

June 14, 2012
Bepops, AKA grandpa, was back in town for the weekend and we met for a morning of 10,000 Islands fishing action starting out of Marco Island. With our son and my better half joining my dad and me on his boat, there were 3 generations headed out together.

We had a great time, very nearby, catching a bunch of small snook, snapper, ladyfish, and one nice redfish.

There’s nothing prettier than the morning sun shining brilliantly off a golden redfish!

I believe we all caught at least a few snook ...

06-01-12 Estero Bay Birthday Fishing Report

June 4, 2012
With the kids out of school, after a great year, I was able to escape to the water, with just my son and nephew to Estero Bay for the day. It was also my Nephew’s birthday, so the days’ itinerary was all up to the kids. We started, per request, looking for some spotted sea trout by drifting shallow grass flats with live shrimp under popping corks. With not a bite, and a too fast drift anyhow, we idled to a nearby point where we got the fish catching started. Several snapper came to the bo...

05-27-12 Marco Island Memorial Day Trip

June 2, 2012
We were able to take the holiday weekend off, and got the invite from Mom to join her at their great place in Marco Island. We loaded up the family, the dog, boat and way too much other stuff for a 2 day trip Sunday morning. We got to the ramp at 951 at the bright and early hour of 10 am or so and weren't surprised by the nice long line. We were surprised to see an attendant though, and things actually moved along rather quickly. With the boat splashed, we invaded Marco by sea and by land and...

05-14-12 Estero Bay Charter

May 24, 2012

Fishing with me last Monday was Tim and Sue from Valparaiso, IN. Bait for the day was live shrimp, and large threadfin herrings caught that morning, before the trip, at the Big Carlos Causeway.

We had a great day with lots of small fish caught, and a nice break at The Fish House restaurant for lunch.

The giant threadfins we were using for bait got a good bit of attention, but the unknown fish chasing them just couldn’t quite seem to get them down. There was one nice size snook, that we sa...

05-18-12 Fort Myers Charter

May 21, 2012

I had returning customers and friends on the boat Friday. We met on the already warm morning about 8am at the boat ramp at Lover’s Key, which is just south of Fort Myers Beach. The boat was already loaded with bait for the full day trip, plenty of frozen threadfins and shrimp from previous trips, very decent sized live shrimp for this time of year, and both livewells brimming with fresh caught small to medium sized threadfin herrings. Once everyone and everything was loaded and secured ...

05-12-12 Fort Myers Shark Fishing

May 15, 2012
I was able to share a great day on the water with the family and a good friend over the weekend. The trip started out of Weeks Fish Camp where a nest full of ospreys hollered at us the entire time it took us to launch the boat.

Our first stop was to pick up our friend Scott at the Big Carlos Bridge, as he couldn’t spend the whole day with us, and it’s a good central location for a quick drop off. With everyone on board we headed to the beaches of Lover’s Key in search for bait, where Sco...
