We had big fun on the water yesterday with a teammate of my young son, who is an avid fisherman, from the most recent baseball season. After filling the livewell with scaled sardines and small herrings, we immediately casted them out and caught a few nice sized Spanish mackerel.
Next, we cruised the beaches all the way to Sanibel looking for some activity. We finally found some diving birds and set up to drift through the activity. Eventually we got a few bites from some more mackerel and then had a very cool small hammerhead shark around 4’ swim to the boat and bite a few baits just behind the hook. Next we ran to some grass flats and caught a few small trout and ladyfish before we made the run back to Estero Bay. We found some snook popping tiny minnows, but all we could get to bite were some small jacks and mackerel. So next it was off to the beach where we all got in the water for a nice cool down and the kids caught and released a ton of big sand dollars. On the way to the next fishing hole we found my favorite pod of dolphins and got them to play with the boat for quite a while. I took a little video, not the best http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzGVGMIKjvM. The last spot got our guest his first giant saltwater sailcat and us a few trout and ladyfish with a couple of trout big enough to add to the cooler.
With the storms gathering quickly in the heat of the day we had to rush to the dock to beat the rain and end another awesome day in Estero Bay.
